Short Bio
Mauricio Rodríguez Abreu is currently the Academic Director in the Department of Actuarial Sciences, Physics and Mathematics at Universidad de las Américas Puebla.
Mauricio joined UDLAP in 2018, where he lead the team that developed the curriculum for the Data Science program, which started in the Fall of 2019. During these years, two academic programs – Physics and Actuarial Sciences – gained the reaccreditation by COPAES and CIEES.
Between 2016 and 2018, Mauricio held a postdoctoral research position at El Colegio de México as part of the Network or the Study of Inequalities, working in the Labour and Inequalities Seminar. During this time, he was also a consultant for the National Council to Prevent Discrimination. Between 2007 and 2010, Mauricio worked for the National Population Council in the Department of Internal Migration and was head of the Department of International Migration Flows.
Mauricio has taught courses in demographic analysis, pensions and social security, statistics for business and social sciences, actuarial mathematics, and non-life insurance and reinsurance.
Research Interests
Actuarial Demography steams from the interception of Actuarial Sciences and Applied Demography, my recent research interests are in this area. Particularly, I my research focuses the characteristics of the population and processes that result in inequalities in the access to the pension system and the quality of retirement income in Mexico. I also study international migration, time-use and aging.
